Story

Known as Julia Smith, her full name at birth was Augusta Penelope Julia Dornford. She was the daughter of Francis Dornford, a commander in the Royal Navy, and Catherine Maria nee Forbes. Julia was born in Wales in 1834 and baptised on 19 March 1834 at St Mary, Cardiff, Glamorgan.
She married Edmund Smith, an attorney and solicitor, on 5 November 1864 in Bath.
In the 1871 Census they were living at 11, Rivers Street, Walcot, Bath, Somerset, with 3 daughters, the oldest being 5 years of age.
Edmund died before the end of 1871 and by 1881 Julia and her daughters  had moved to Ealing Road, Middlesex. Julia did not remarry.
In the next two Censuses they lived at ‘Walcot’, Winchester Road, Worthing, where Julia died on 8 April 1917.
