Arnold William Robert Henry Meuter (known as William) was born on 29th April 1849 in Belgium to Gerhard Ludovicus and Margaret Gordon Meuter (nee Whytt)
Arnold's Father Gerhard was born in 1820 in Germany and he worked as a Professor of Commerce and Political Economy at the Verviers College in Belgium. He arrived in England from France on the 3rd August 1845, and married Margaret Gordon Whytt on 26th December 1848 at Highgate Middlesex. They lived at 21 Langdon Road Upper Holloway Middlesex.
Arnold's Grandfather known as Arnoldus Albertus Meuter was a Captain and Private Secretary to General Dumouriez. General Dumouriez was born in France in 1739. He entered the French Army in 1758 and served with distinction against the Prussians in the Seven Years War. King Louis XV sent him on secret diplomatic missions to Madrid in 1767 and Poland in 1770. He became General in the French Revolutionary wars and won the battle of Valmy in 1792. He was also Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Arnold married Jane Adshead (also known as Jennie) on the 15th August 1877 at Portsea, Portsmouth

Arnold worked as a clerk for the PandO company. (In 1844 PandO began offering passenger services to let people take a sea tour to destinations including Gibraltar, Athens and Malta from Southampton).
At some point between 1887 and 1905 the family moved to England, where the family lived for many years at Casa Melita Eton Road Worthing.
Arnold died on 20th September 1934 at North View East Preston Sussex. He left £1331 9s (£67400 in 2020) to his Daughter Edith Margaret.
