Life story

Life story

Amelia was born in Lewisham, the daughter of Henry Constable Roberts and his wife Amelia. She was baptised at Hatcham St James, Lewisham on 22 Mar 1855. Henry was a wholesale druggist. Amelia had 9 siblings and the family was wealthy enough to afford a governess for the children. In 1887, Amelia married Rev. Frederick Ernest White at St Peter, Croydon on 5 Sep. The couple had no children but dedicated their lives to their congregation at St Stephen, Dulwich. When her husband retired in 1915, Amelia was presented with a chased gold watch. Frederick died in a nursing home in Worthing in 1929 and Amelia stayed on in the town, living at 10 Winchester Road. This was a rest home run by a Miss Sales. Amelia died at 5 Church Walk, the home of Mrs Emma Drose on 9 Feb 1939. Probate was granted on 22 Mar to Sydney Densham company director. Effects £1643 16s 9d (approx. £65K in 2020).
