Life story

Amelia Elizabeth Treadwell was born on 10th October 1830 to John Treadwell, Shoe Maker, and Elizabeth Treadwell. She was baptised on November 4th, 1830 at St. Marylebone; she had an older brother John, born 1827. Amelia attended a boarding school in St. Pancras at the age of 10yrs.

On 7th September 1852, Amelia married Henry Merchant Clark, 25yrs, a Railway Clerk, at St. Marylebone. They lived in London for over thirty years, moving to Worthing, where her brother and his family lived when Henry retired. They lived at Timbrecumbe, St. Michael's Road. They had no children.

Amelia was widowed in 1908 when Henry died, aged 83yrs. She continued to live in St. Michael's Rd. until her death on 30th April 1923, aged 92yrs.
