Life story

Life story

Alice (known as Isabella) was one of three Archer sisters born to Thomas and Frances. She was baptised at St Anne's church, Soho on 2nd January 1854. Her father was a master currier and upholsterer. After he was widowed, Alice and her sisters Frances and Harriett continued to live with him until his death in 1905. By 1881, Thomas had a large factory in Long Acre, employing approx. 80 people making carriage trimming. After living in Islington, the family moved to Worthing, living in Lansdowne Road. In 1905, the factory burned down and later the same year, Thomas died. He was buried in Camden. The three sisters continued to live together and moved to "Rolden" in Winchester Road. By 1911, they were living in Rowlands Road. Harriett died in 1915 and Frances in 1923. Alice moved to 15 Wordsworth Road, Worthing. She died on 5th April 1940 and was buried with her sisters at Heene. Probate was granted on 20th May to Frances Ethel Satchell spinster. Effects £3477 9s 8d.
