Life story

Alfred was born in Wandsworth, the son of Robert Thomas and Ellen Elizabeth (Helen). His birth was registered as Albert Edward Ernest. He was baptised at St Anne's Church, Wandsworth on 8th March 1891. Alfred's father was a bricklayer and the family lived at 1 Borradaile Road. By 1901, two of Alfred's siblings had died, Thomas aged 3 and Helen aged 1. The family moved to Worthing before 1901 and settled in a new house in Elm Grove (later no. 44). Alfred trained as a butcher. He died aged 18 on 25th March 1909 of heart disease and gastric influenza. His mother Ellen was buried in the same plot when she died in 1928.  No probate.
