Agnes Jane Dunston was born on 6th April 1866 in Richmond, Surrey, she was baptised on 29th July 1866. Her parents were, William Dunston, 25yrs, Carpenter and Joiner, and Ruth, 21yrs, nee Hicks. Agnes had 3 siblings, Lena b.1868, Walter Herbert b.1870, and Thomas William b.1872.
Agnes lived with her family in Richmond until she and her sister, Lena, both trained as schoolteachers, moved to Yapton, Sussex, where, in 1891, they were certificated elementary teachers at Yapton School.
On 9th August 1893, Agnes, 27yrs, married Henry Arthur Ellis, 25yrs, at St. Mary's, Yapton, Sussex. At the time of their marriage, Henry was a decorator by trade, but ten years later he was a stationer with his own shop in Tarring Road, Worthing, he was also an income tax collector. Henry and Agnes had 3 children, their first child, Doris Ruth, born 1900, died at the age of 5yrs, their son, Roderick Henry, was born in 1904, and a second daughter, Lenora Joan, in 1906.
In 1927, when Henry died, aged 59yrs, on 8th February, he and Agnes were living at Melrose, 44, Crescent Road, Worthing. At some point, Agnes moved to 23, Reigate Road, Worthing, where she died on 2nd February 1936, aged 69yrs. Probate was granted to Roderick Henry Ellis, Estate Agent, effects £2920 4s 9d.
